The table

Three brothers, Giacomo, Felice and Pietro Prandelli, founded Mepra in 1947 in Lumezzane, a Lombard town known for its metalwork. The family still runs it, now in its fourth generation, and still makes its flatware and serving pieces there. The maison calls its work Arte Inossidabile, the art of stainless steel.

Gaggenau is closest to the fire and The Plan to the room. Mepra is closest to the hand, the last thing between the cooking and the guest.

Before Shin’Labo opened in February 2022, Mepra and I worked through every piece the room would use. Weight, balance, line and finish were settled between the workshop in Lumezzane and our kitchen in Kuala Lumpur. Each piece carries my signature.

Mepra then sponsored all of the cutlery at Shin’Labo for as long as the restaurant ran: every piece at every service, at the counter, in the dining room and at the Krug Chef’s Table. No other restaurant in Malaysia served on this range. Few brands have committed so much to my work.

When the Krug Chef’s Table moved to Shin’Labo in February 2022, Mepra made a special edition of Stile, the line Pininfarina designs for the maison. It was finished in rose gold for that table alone. Pininfarina’s name runs along each blade and mine along each handle. Pininfarina drew the form, Mepra made it, and the brief came from the Krug table. It is the most considered piece of cutlery I have been part of.

Mepra named me its first Malaysian Ambassador in October 2025, after Shin’Labo had closed and I had left restaurants for conservation and culinary diplomacy. The title rests on years of work already done at the table. In Malaysia I speak for Mepra to chefs, hoteliers and anyone who cares what a guest eats with.

The Shin’Labo range and the Krug edition belong to that room’s story. The ambassadorship carries on wherever the next table is set. I owe Mepra thanks for the sponsorship, the design work and its faith in me.
